I am struggling with neck dystonia for 2 years now. Botox did not work for me and pain is severe in my nek and spinal cord. New specialist suggested a neck brace, but still waiting for confirmation from him about the brace.

I distracted myself from the outside world and barely go out. My family don't always understand why, but the pain and discomfort is just so unbearable due to the fact that I cannot stand, walk or sit for long periods if time. How do I make them realize how I feel and that I am not spiteful or something. I really miss socializing with my friends and family.

What can I use for pain that really works???

Thanks,
Carin

Hi Carin,
So sorry to hear you are in such a bad way with the pain.I've had Cervical Dystonia for about 18 months now, but thankfully my pain is relatively mild. I wore a neckbrace for a little while but found it didn't help my symptoms particularly well. I can relate to the feeling of not wanting to go out much, but I forced myself to do as much as I felt I could as I had a fear of social isolation. What other treatment have you had or been offered? Is your new specialist a neurologist?

Hi Star gazer
Yes, it is a neurologist that I am seeing again. I've had physic, botox and infiltration for the pain but none of them did the trick. I am really suffering from pain and medication given did not help so I stopped using them. (Celebrex 200 and Tramazet)

I really hope and pray that this dr come up with some kind of pain reliever because I don't know for how long I can still keep this up. I get so emotionally low some days, and that scares me.

I feel that I am in the way of my family's social life due to the fact that I can't go or do everything they want me to do.

Thank you for the ear, I will most definitely use it again!

Three weeks ago they dr suggested a "Halo brace" and I fell for it. It was put on my head in theatre and it was the worst three weeks of my life. The spasm in my neck is so bad that it pulled the brace deeper into mu scull every day. After almost 2weeks of wearing it, I had it removed. The pain was killing me and Ithe discomfort was unbearable. Definitely a no-no for me!

I am still in pain due to the spasm and now the wounds of the Halo brace that needs to heal.

Please, if anyone else know of any new methods, please help.

Thanks,
Carin
