Before I had Cervical Dystonia I used to suffer from Bruxism. This condition causes a person to grind their teeth sometimes awake but mostly (for me) during sleep. About 2 years before I developed Cervical Dystonia I had problems with my wisdom teeth
and had them removed. Unfortunately the surgeon had to remove my left bottom molar tooth. The other ones had been removed. I suspect that this imbalance when I bite caused the Bruxism to move from my jaw to my neck resulting in Cervical Dystonia. This occurred when I was under a great deal of stress. Both of my children tell me that when they are stressed they bite their teeth together very hard also. There is a dental surgeon in the USA called Dr Stack and he has supposedly invented an oral device that moves the jaw/neck muscles over a period of time that significantly improves Cervical Dystonia. You can see this on You Tube and he has also written an interesting article in a scholarly article website named Pubmed. I am working with a UK Dental Surgeon on this theory as I will have to have dental implants to go further down this road. I am interested in learning of other peoples experiences on this matter.

I was diagnosed as having blepharospasm and torticolis about two years ago and offered botox by my local hospital. I was unhappy with this and decided to look for alternatives.

I also found Dr Brendan Stack's website and youtube videos. There are two other dental surgeons also specialising in this type of treatment in the USA, Dr Anthony Sims and Dr Gary Demerjian. I was so impressed with what I saw that I contacted them. As a result, I am now seeing a dental surgeon in the UK (Surrey), who works, using the same methods as Dr Stack,

I am now one-year into a two-year course of treatment using appliances. At the start of my treatment I had great difficulty keeping my eyes open and I was blinking a lot of the time. I also had great difficulty in holding my head up as it kept wanting to look at the ground and twist to the left. I also had aches in my neck, and, if I swallowed something the wrong way, I couldn't get my breath. I also found that my facial muscles didn't want to work properly and if I turned my head to the right and looked down, I couldn't smile

All the above mentioned symptoms have now gone. I have a few minor related symptoms but I feel so much better and my quality of life has greatly improved - and I still have a year of treatment to go, so could improve even more.

I haven't had implants but I currently have a lower appliance, the upper appliance (to expand the jaw) has done its job and has been removed and I also have what are commonly known as 'train tracks'.

Hope the above helps and good luck with your treatment.

HI MY NAME IS IAN AND I APPRECIATE YOUR E-MAIL. THANK YOU. THE PROBLEM I HAVE IS THAT THE DENTAL SURGEON I AM WORKING WITH IS NOT SURE HOW TO GO FORWARD WITH THE PROCESS SO I AM A BIT STUCK AT PRESENT. PLEASE CAN YOU SEND ME THE NAME, ADDRESS AND CONTACT DETAILS OF THE DENTIST YOU ARE USING?? I LIVE IN BOURNEMOUTH SO TRIPS TO SURREY ARE NOT A MAJOR PROBLEM AS MY SON IS UNEMPLOYED AND CAN DRIVE ME THERE.
KIND REGARDS,
IAN

Hello Ian

I am seeing a Dental Surgeon called Andre Hedger.

If you type his name into Google, his practice has a website where you can read about/see the services he offers and also find the contact details.

I have his permission to mention his name on social media.

I hope it works out well for you.
